Another important part of the brief on this assignment - I need a logo, banner and motion graphics/animation to go on my website. I started with the banner. First, I considered doing a banner in Adobe Photoshop and simply inserting that in the HTML code of the website. I actually have a design and idea for that. It is just a phrase I like, presented in a banner and it will make its way into my presentation. Yet, I am pretty sure it will not be what I will do at the end. It will be an option if I can't execute my other idea, so it will be useful to have to as Plan B. The more I think about it and after exploring Bootstrap and seeing the endless possibilities I have to create anything using only code, the more I feel that this will be the direction I will take. In other words - there is no banner to show now, but I will definitely make a detailed note of what I will do, once I start writing about the actual building of the website.
Then there was the Logo. The easiest way probably was to go with something designed entirely by me. Simple and connected directly with me. Like my initials in a logo, or a phrase. There are great logo generators online that can do excellent job, once you know what you want to include. There was always the option to go all in creatively and do something more complicated and original. I couldn't come up with anything..Then I started thinking about the content of my website. It is about art, beauty and how we all have different idea what is art and what is good art. Perfection does not exist. I believe no absolutes exist for that matter, because we all have different understanding of things and put them in different context. The closest thing that comes to perfection, in any sense, is the Golden Ratio which is the Fibonacci sequence. And there was already a representation of that, you don't go and just come up with a new one. Then I remembered that it is also represented with the Greek letter phi, or as it is known in Maths, the divine proportion ( every once in a while graduating from a Western and Ancient Languages High School proves useful).
For my logo I decided to incorporate the two and hope for the best. I designed it in Photoshop and decided that I will make it into an animated gif video in Premiere Pro, where the Logo will gradually appear and then stand still on my home page. Yes, I agree that it is not extremely creative, and I will not be using After Effects, which we are studying now. After Effects for me is not the most user friendly programme and, while I already have some knowledge about it, it is not my first choice when working on a practical assignment. Also, there are ways to create animation, using HTML and CSS, so I will explore those more and probably will add another animated element. All in all, if I was working on a website in my free time, if I did not have other modules and assignments to think about , I would have probably been more creative and more time would have been dedicated to this. But efforts definitely went into thinking about the logo and coming up with the finished idea, designing how to incorporate the elements and doing the animation.
I did not want it to go on forever, as this might turn out to be distracting and annoying, so after making it in Premiere Pro I used Gimp, a programme you manipulate gifs with, and will made it appear only once on the actual website.
