Image, Text and (not) Music
Some time ago I read Roland Barthes's Image-Music-Text and I loved it. Semiotics and how our reality is created within societies and cultural norms has been something I was interested in long before I came to University. So I started thinking - what my website will be trying to say about me and about art? How to optimise the use of images and text, so it conveys a message, it creates a context? I have to admit that putting an abstract together with technology can be confusing, but big part of content design is how you engage with the users. At this point there is one thing that is clear - my website will not be text heavy, yet I will try to convey my passion for modern and contemporary art through at least some text, and showcase it with images.
From the start I had the idea of the "My life in Exhibitions" page, that I will populate with images from the best exhibitions I visited in the last two years. Text, that was different story..We all have different ways of positioning ourselves in the world, and amongst other people. I have always relied on knowledge and being true to myself, no matter what. I guess, translating this into a website content, it means I will go for informative above all. There won't be passionate speeches, long explanations how much I love and enjoy art, and paragraph after paragraph about me and art. It will be about art itself. I will concentrate on making sure that, even if I write a sentence about a style, or a movement, or a venue, it will tell the user something new, something useful and interesting. I will rely on my own knowledge, so this will be where I will try to show art as important part of my life. After all, being bothered to learn enough about something and make it into a website, should mean I have passion for it and I am not afraid to work on enriching my knowledge.
As for the images, I will make separate galleries dedicated to each exhibition, and all the photos I am using will be my own. Few of those, I have in mind putting there, I might have to visit again one of these days, as I usually try and enjoy the experience and do not have enough photos for a decent gallery right now. Music there will be none! First because I don't want to overcomplicate things, but most importantly I think that this will be a sensory overload. It is distracting, annoying and not a good idea overall in web design.
