Technical process - how it all came together (Part III)
I took it to my last page and different bits and pieces I wanted to do and improve. Also, there was the moment with uploading my project to the Uni server using FileZilla. At this point I did not have it in me to attempt even basic design. The reality is that, if you want to come out of this assignment actually capable of making a website, it takes a lot of work, commitment and time. I was facing the question - should I push it or get it done. Usually I am the one who always pushes it, this time I opted out. I decided to simply incorporate my CV as a pdf file. It does not look particularly appealing on the page, but it gives the options for the CV to be downloaded and printed out. How to embed pdf file I learned from w3schools again. From there I also got how to do my footer. I actually have written the code myself and it was done, I just did not know how to position it properly. I used my code and just followed this example how to adjust my CSS and fix it.
I am already at a point where I just want it to be done. As mush as I enjoyed this, it took a lot out of me. Also, from everything I read it is pretty common for a web server to interpret your code differently than Dreamweaver, so I think I will try and get over any disappointment I have and upload the folder to FileZilla. This way, if there are issues, I will be able to fix them before submitting the link to my website.
P.S. I am coming back to add my experience with FileZilla. After hours attempting to upload from my home, I kept getting this message 'could not connect to server'. No troubleshooting worked, and as it turned out later, the problem was never with me. However, sometimes things work just as they should. Because of that issue I had to go and seek assistance from Tom, the technician that was technical support for us, and it turned out this helped me a lot. While the upload itself worked just fine on the Uni network, the server did not recognise parts of my code and links, and half of my website broke! Tom helped me inspect the errors and, although I was able to fix everything by myself, I could not have done without him checking exactly what went wrong. Or at least not that fast. With him it took me 10 minutes, without him I might have ended doing this for hours. All is good and I have a website already on the server. I am so not impressed with my final result, yet I am a bit proud that I actually managed to do this from scratch and create a website.
