CSS for beginners
I think it will take a lot of time and efforts to progress anywhere beyond a beginner, but I am quite determined and ambitious person, so I know I will get there. After achieving some understanding of the HTML syntax, structure and functionality, I had to figure out how it works in combination with CSS, in order for a website to be created. Back I go to tutorials. This time it was CSS Essential Training with Christina Truong. It was really good in establishing the idea of the link between HTML and CSS. I started thinking about it in the way that HTML is my framework, the skeleton of my website and CSS is how I style that, the way I want things to appear.
Again - it was not easy! If I can give an advice to anyone starting with a new technical skill - practice! Do not rely on just tutorials themselves, or books, or someone else's examples. Practice as much as possible. I am a visual and practical learner - I need to see what is happening in real time and I need to follow, to do it myself, more than once if I have to, so it stays with me. Also, just like any new language you are studying, practice makes perfect. Years ago I was intermediate reader and speaker in German and Russian. Today I will be lucky to pass a beginner's level as I have not used or practiced those in any way for ages. At this point my Mandarin Chinese is better than them, despite me being merely at Level 2 with that one. It is the same with HTML and CSS - I covered the tutorials but I found that if I go even few days not practicing for an hour, things start to disappear from mind. I made few HTML and CSS exercise files and I am trying to work on them every day for a little bit.
As you can see I decided to use Dreamweaver for my assignment, so it was obvious this will be my next stop on this learning path. I got acquainted with the programme and the interface in the first lessons of the module, which allowed me to use it on a basic level and do my exercises I know there is so much more to it. It is something that stuck with me when figuring out Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Audition. The Adobe Creative Cloud software offers endless opportunities, yet it is not a simple one. In order for me to start thinking about my concept (Finally!) there was one more stop to make and that was to know as much as possible about Dreamweaver.
